Image by grendelkhan via FlickrThere has to be an easy way to make wine at home doesn’t there?
That question has to have been asked a million times by now.
The short answer is, in the past to become any good at home wine making you simply have to know what you’re doing.
This either meant you’d done it before and learnt from your mistakes (costly wasn’t it), or you took the learning route and devoured all you could about making wine at home before you went and bought your wine making kits.
Fortunately, home wine making kits today provide all that you need to bang out your first bottle in no time. The instructions included with them are almost foolproof.
This is both good and bad:
Good because
- you want cheap wine, so making wine at home seems to be logical
- you want it easy, home wine making kits are child’s play these days
- I want my homemade wine quickly, yep kits knock the bottles out pretty fast these days
Bad because
- not everyone wants cheap, some would like to imbue a little distinctiveness into their bottles
- this leads us to flavour. Like mass produced wines, kits destroy the individual tastes of great home wines
Personally, I’ve done the tour of the bad and the good. I started off wanting to make wine at home cheaply. But I’ve slowly moved into the camp that wants to make distinctive wines.
This little booklet has helped me immensely.
What camp are you in at present??
